10 – Air-Brush Process
Traditionally, the painting process requires masking – exposing areas to be painted while protecting other areas from un-wanted spray. Frisket (a thin, sticky plastic film) is used for masking on paper surfaces, with an x-acto knife used to cut and lift away areas to be painted. Not possible on fabric!
I cut a freezer paper shape of the dragons and person and ironed it onto the white fabric. Those areas will be protected while I get some sky and land in. Looks like a total mess, doesn’t it?
Newsprint helps to mask areas and test the spray pattern. Masking is an essential part of air-brushing.
