17 – Simple (?) Solution

Making it up as I go, I’ve decided to layer the air-brushing and batting onto the right side of the backing fabric. My thought is to free-motion quilt, then cut away excess batting and painting fabric, add some fabric collage to cover the weird edges, mount the entire thing on stretcher bars and call it a day.
