8 – A book about color
When I’m not thinking about my studio projects, then I’m reading about art. Especially when contemplating new work, I’m constantly on the look-out for something that might connect with or extend my current ideas. I never know what might provoke some divergent thought.
I suspected that the book, “Color: A Natural History of the Palette,” by Victoria Finlay might be a dry read, but many of the anecdotes are very entertaining. She’s traveled the world to research how colors came to be, from their discovery through usage and folklore through the ages. It’s the type of book that can be picked up and put down, exploring one color at a time, with lots of interesting tidbits of knowledge!
