52 – Finding your center

July 6, 2020 By

A lot of geometry going on here. it will be no easy thing to draw a funhouse entrance barrel convincingly. It is a basic cylinder shape, so the best way to go about this is to first draw the rectangular box that it would fit in, using my grid as a guide to create that box. The ends of the barrel are elliptical shapes.

Do you know how to find the center of a square? Draw a straight line from each corner to the opposite corner. The intersection is the center. The center is not always the halfway point. If the shape is drawn with perspective, the intersection will show the perspective center. That’s important to know as you are figuring out correct placement and size of things, like windows and doors in a house for example.
