28 – “Nothing to see here folks, move along.”
Thinking on the collapsing space of a traveling carnival ride, I tried to stretch the idea to something else that works in the same way. I don’t have a photo for this post. That’s because I traveled on a diversionary road, and ended up with “nothing to see here folks, move along.”
I came up with dollhouses that unfold. The kind that open and you can see the outside and then all the rooms within. Maybe this thought would be a way to get all my ideas to work together. Maybe I could show rooms that had different things going on, like a person that appears one way on the outside and has multiple things happening in their mind if you could only see into it.
I started to think that maybe if I had an actual dollhouse, it would help me envision spatial relationships and the correct size of people. I asked around and had several kind people offer up dollhouses – one huge clunker beloved by a really sweet, older lady who I had nice chat with, then another one even huger – a wooden house built by prisoners and shingled with Hoodsie popsicle sticks, and one hardly used, modern style house complete with all sorts of peoples and accessories. After I lugged the thing home and sat pondering it, I realized that it wasn’t going to help at all. My ideas and this house didn’t fit together. But I have a lovely house for my granddaughter when she grows old enough to play with it!
