Cotton, batting, Procion dye, acrylic ink, textile paint
Whole cloth quilt, painted with Procion dye, acrylic ink and textile paint.
Painting with Procion dye is very different from the textile paints and inks that I am used to. The final color is not immediately apparent, for one thing. Another factor that I disliked was the chemical process – mixtures and safety precautions are much more exacting, so it takes away the feeling of spontaneity.
The quilt began with a dye painting class with Hollis Chatelain at Houston Quilt Festival. I used some of my photographs from a trip to Cuba.
